What Is STEAM?

What Is STEAM Education in Early Childhood?

STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math. Through play-based learning, we help children connect these subjects to the world around them in creative, meaningful ways. This approach is at the heart of early childhood STEAM education, nurturing critical thinking, problem-solving, and a lifelong love of discovery—starting from the earliest years.

Every day, we turn moments of curiosity into opportunities for learning and joy.

Science

Explore & Discover

We guide children to observe, question, and experiment. From nature walks to sensory investigations, science helps spark curiosity and a love of discovery.

Wanderers Program

Technology

Create & Connect

Children explore tools and inventions—like ramps, wheels, and levers—to see how they work. Observing cause and effect shows how technology helps in everyday life.

Roamers Program

Engineering

Build & Design

With blocks, ramps, and open-ended materials, children explore balance, structure, and creative design—developing spatial awareness and problem-solving skills.

Travelers Program

Art

Express & Imagine

Art is everywhere in our classrooms. Children draw, paint, sculpt, and collage to express emotions, explore ideas, and bring their imaginations to life.

Explorers Program

Math

Count, Sort & Pattern

We introduce numbers through play—counting blocks, making patterns, measuring ingredients—laying a strong foundation for early math confidence.

Our Classrooms

How We Bring STEAM to Life in the Classroom

We thoughtfully integrate early childhood STEAM education into our daily routines, classroom environments, and play-based activities. Rather than isolating subjects, we blend Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math into meaningful experiences that reflect how children naturally explore the world. Here’s how each STEAM element comes to life in our learning spaces:

Science

We explore nature, conduct safe, hands-on experiments, and encourage kids to observe and ask questions.

Art

Artistic expression is naturally woven throughout all subjects to boost creativity and emotional development.

Technology

Children use tools and inventions to explore how things work, building problem-solving skills through cause-and-effect learning.

Math

Number recognition, sorting, measuring, and pattern-making help build foundational early numeracy skills.

Engineering

Through building blocks and design challenges, students learn about structure, balance, and creative solutions.

Collaboration

Group projects that build early teamwork skills, empathy, peer connection, and social-emotional development.

STEAM Benefits

Why STEAM Learning Matters for Young Children

Children enrolled in STEAM-based programs show stronger critical thinking abilities, improved communication, and enhanced creativity. STEAM isn’t a separate subject—it’s a mindset that shapes the way children understand their world.

Encourages curiosity and problem-solving

Develops critical thinking skills through exploration and discovery.

Boosts brain and motor development

Hands-on activities strengthen neural pathways and fine motor skills.

Builds resilience through experimentation

Learning from trial and error develops persistence and confidence.

Strengthens communication and collaboration

Group projects build social skills and teamwork abilities.

Prepares for academic success

Strong foundation in STEAM concepts supports future learning.

The team at LSA has been incredible since my kiddo enrolled way back in 2021. Having support during all the early development stages was so helpful as a parent, especially when we hit a rough three-nager phase. I have no doubt my kiddo is prepared for kindergarten thanks to everything they learned during their time at LSA. We love the LSA community!
